You mention all of the themes that it brings up, but the problem with dkr is that it doesnt explore the ideas very successfully. For instance, 2001 bored me to death and I have no intention of watching it ever again. We all have different opinions on our favorite films. Thanks to TDKR, Nolan expertly ensured that the fall is negligible, thus cementing the trilogy's place among the all-time greats. TDK had set the bar so high that a drop in quality was almost unavoidable. If anything, TDKR is a worthy addition to the franchise. Did I mention Wally Pfister's fabulous work in the cinematography department? Each film (including Begins) has a beautiful and unique feel. Not only that, these films also deliver entertainment by the bucketful. Both chapters of Nolan's trilogy explore complex social themes which allows them to transcend their genre. TDKR, on the other hand, told us that if one hero's sacrifice is enough to boost a decaying city to unite as one and inspire it to rise above its shameful past, it's probably worth it. TDK, through Gordon's epic monologue and that tragic ending, threw light on the corrupt nature of Gotham and how it was unfair to let one man take the heat for it. He got the respect he deserved even though he didn't need it ) I liked how Batman's hard work remained largely unappreciated in TDK where as in TDKR, he finally got the recognition he deserved. TDKR is multilayered and far more intelligent than the average comicbook flick. It's not like BB and TDK were the most realistic films ever made. Can't really be detail-oriented while watching a superhero movie. The only one which can't be explained is Miranda not warning Bane about Bruce's return to Gotham. As for the plot holes, most of them can be explained by applying basic logic. There's more to it than visible on the surface level. Like TDK, it too talks about various relevant themes and issues such as freedom vs security, lack of an established order, perseverance, revenge, post-9/11 counter-terrorism tactics, the anti-corporate movement, vigilantism, capitalism, rising to the challenge and continuing one hero's legacy for the greater good of the people. It's a visually stunning action-thriller thematically linked to redemption and sacrifice, with corruption functioning as an undercurrent.
